Day One---Done.

First Day of School!!!!!!  Not only was today my first day back to school, but miss Halle went to Kindergarten today, too!!!!  Can you believe it???  I have to admit, there was some welling up of tears when I looked at this picture--I can't believe she's so grown up!!!!  Way to go, Halle!!!

So, yes, the first day back to school is over, and this is exactly how I feel...

Pooped.  Exhausted.  Completely wiped out.

It was a good day.  Great kids.  But, I am OUT OF SHAPE, people!  My schedule this year is 8:30-2:30 (with a lunch break from 12:05-12:30), so I shouldn't be complaining . . . but I am whiped out!!!!!  I teach General English 9 for the first 3 periods of the day, and then I teach Accelerated English 9 the last period of the day.  Then, during 5th block (the last period of the school day) I have planning, so that's AWESOME.  It really is a great schedule, but I'm going to have to start working out hard core to build stamina to get through the ongoing day.  I'm a wimp.  :)

So, for those of you who may not know, I'm a pretty "mean" teacher--"strict" is the word I prefer, but the kids tend to use "mean" instead.  :)  So, I had to put my "mean" mask back on today when I started my first class, as I explained my rules and consequences and what I mean by "RESPECT."  As silly as I feel being so insanely strict, it really does pay off in the long run.  So... I'm hoping to only have to be "mean" until Christmas, and then I can lighten up a bit and maybe even smile some.  :)

Other than that, no news in the adoption front.  Our agency is going on (I think) almost 6 weeks of no new referrals, but lots of families are traveling, so that's exciting!  I'm trying to just plan on very little "action" over the next month.  Just hold out.  God's timing is perfect.  It always is.
Hope all of you are doing well!  Love you all!

"mean" ms. head makes me laugh...even at your meanest your love for those kids completely floods that room, and though they'd NEVER say it, they know it. your high expectations for their behavior is exactly what communicates how much you truly care. you're an awesome teacher, even when it doesn't feel like your thing. And your mom sounds like a very wise lady. :)
