13 miles to Kebron

Students receive sponsor letters and gifts at the Kebron Carepoint.

The above link will take you directly to the Facebook page for the Kebron Carepoint in Ethiopia, where you can read more details if you are interested.

Hi friends!

As some of you may already know, I’m training for my first half marathon at the end of April!  I am NOT a runner—never have been—but for some reason, when the calendar turned to 2013, I had this strange, overwhelming desire to just try it….

Come to find out, there was a bigger picture than me just trying to learn how to run.

I would like to invite you to partner with me in using this race to bring awareness to, and raise funds for, a group of kiddos that are close to my heart.

Briefly, Kebron Carepoint currently serves 70 students living in Modjo, Ethiopia by providing their daily, basic needs, ranging from education to nutrition.  Many of these students are already being sponsored by families around the US.  Through partnering with Cihldren’s HopeChest, these families can provide the resources necessary to help meet these basic needs on a consistent basis.  Our family has a sweet friend living at Kebron Carepoint now.  His name is Abenezer, and we are loving getting to know him more through letters and pictures and hearing from friends who have recently visited the carepoint as well.

So, what does all of this have to do with running???  I would love to partner with you to help meet a current, specific need for these students.  It has been several years now since the students at Kebron have been able to get new school uniforms.  As time goes by, uniforms wear down, just like any other type of clothing—as we all know.  Would you consider helping me contribute to providing the funds necessary to purchase new school uniforms for these very special students?  The estimated total cost to provide new school uniforms for these students is $2000.

I am asking for a $1 donation for every mile that I will run during the race on April 27th.  For those of you not “in tune” with the racing world (that would be me—no judging here), the half marathon will be a little over 13 miles.  Would you consider donating $13 to go toward providing these students with new school uniforms?

If you are interested in sponsoring me as I “run for Kebron,” please make your checks payable to Children’s HopeChest and write “Kebron school uniforms” in the memo of the check.

You can mail your checks directly to me, and I will send them on to Children’s HopeChest.

Thank you, friends!  Once I have the total amount of funds raised, I will post an update back on my blog to let you know how much we were able to contribute as a TEAM!  I look forward to also posting pictures of the students in their new school uniforms in the future as well!

LOVE YOU ALL!
