Back to School!

Our friend, Cam, came over to play this morning! We love you, Cam (and your sweet mommy)!

So, it's BACK TO SCHOOL time!!! Actually, it's off to "school" for the very first time for Jordan (insert Mommy getting choked up).

Nate and I have decided to let Jordan try a program at our awesome church called Mom's Day Out. I wish I had time to describe it, but just know it's super-duper. :) So, starting next Monday, Jordan will head out with his backpack (see below) Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9-12.

***Thoughts on school for a 2-year-old . . .

This decision has been really tough for me, for some reason. I've struggled with the fact that I QUIT MY JOB TO STAY HOME with Jordan, and now I'm sending him off to school? What the heck? I've also struggled with the fact that boys are designed by God to have TONS of energy and need to jump and run and throw things and kick and on and on and on . . . and it's hard for me to imagine Jordan sitting through any kind of structured play/reading/learning time. It's also been hard for me to let go of those 6 hours a week, worrying that someone might forget to encourage Jordan to say, "thank you," and "please," and encourage him NOT to hit or kick his neighbor. :)

So, all that to say, I've worried plenty about what this decision means for Jordan and for our family.

However . . . for right now, it seems like the pros outweigh the cons. For example, Jordan does SO MUCH BETTER in the mornings if we are going, going, going, especially if we are playing with other friends. Also, Jordan is like a gigantic SPONGE right now, soaking up all kinds of new words and ideas like they are hot off the press. It's so cool to think about all that he may learn in a different setting than I can offer him at home right now. (p.s. I truly believe in home schooling . . . I really do . . . this is NOT A KNOCK on homeschooling at all. In fact, I may be a future homeschooling mom myself . . . who knows???)

And of course, another pro is that Jordan's sweet friend, Natalie, will be in his class, and I love that they get to share so much of their lives together. Such a God-thing, if you ask me.

Oh, and one more pro . . . mommy gets some time to herself! :) Never a bad thing, if you ask me.

. . . and my last class (for the next 5 years, at least) starts the 23rd. Woohoo! The class focuses on young adult literature, so when I went to pick up my "textbooks," I actually ended up leaving with 12 young adult novels! 12! So, I started one last night with the hopes of knocking out a few before the semester actually starts. Currently, I am reading a novel about a couple of high school kids who hack into computer systems and get caught up in a terrorist act as well. Geesh. How depressing. Oh well. At least I'm well aware of what teenagers today are reading. Yippee.. no wonder our world has so many issues.

he will do great and you will be so surprised. I found that when we sent JH it allowed me to cherish that time with him more. I was able to get "house" things done so when he was home we just played! Good luck!

Jordan will LOVE school! I had all the same feelings you are having and I'm always sad leaving him but what a great feeling it is when you pick them up and they are having a blast. I'm laughing that you are worried about the teachers not encouraging him to say please, thank you, etc....that is so me! Bek needs to be reminded of many things and i hate to think of how he acts when I'm not around. Good luck and you will enjoy getting some things done that never get done when you have a 2 year old around. Of course, I should be taking advantage and doing those right now instead of checking blogs-ha.

Stef, you are a wonderful mommy! I am so glad that you get to go through all of these hard things before me. lol. I think school is great and plan to send Drake to one at some point myself. I think being a teacher makes it hard because I feel like I should be teaching him everything and if he is not a baby genius then I have failed. However, there is nothing like social interaction with other kiddos. You have fun during your Mommy Time! I will be teaching other peoples kids on Tues and Thurs so my son will be going to the school of grandmas! :)
